Chopped Liver – Honey Just Allow Me One More Chance

Not sure Bob had this in mind when he penned that tune almost 50 years ago but it seems like you cannot move for Honey Cake round here.

It’s dangerous to even pop out of the house for fear of bumping into someone who greets you with, “Shana Tova! Come and have a piece of honey cake.”

Reminds me of growing up in Glasgow and the time of year that is known as Hogmanay to locals – New Years Eve to Sassenachs. You’d imagine that the one place you could guarantee a pub to be open for a wee dram was in Glasgow on New Year – but au contraire – y’see back then, this was such an important day for locals that even the pub landlords closed their doors early so they and their staff can bring in the New Year with their families – it’s true – the pubs in Glasgow would close on potentially the busiest night of the year. Wouldn’t happen now I’m sure – business sense has reached the north.

‘Course you could always venture back out in the streets after midnight and find the pubs have reopened – and then all hell breaks loose.

Let's Paaaarrttyyy!!!!!

The Jewish community do not drink themselves stupid. They eat honey cake.

And just like the pubs in Glasgow, the honey cake shops have already closed their doors for the festivities – so all those people walking around aimlessly in the streets desperate for one last taste of honey are out of luck. The bakers are at home scoffing with their families!

Now there… are 3…. steps to… carry a donor card – ooh, wap wap!
Just follow steps 1, 2 and 3.
